Observing Comets from La Jolla, California in November 2025
La Jolla (latitude ~32.8°N, longitude ~117.3°W) sits on the coast just north of San Diego. Urban light pollution (Bortle ~6–7) dims faint comets, so drive 30–60 minutes inland or north for darker skies:

Best nearby dark sites (Bortle 3–4):
Palomar Mountain (1 hr NE)
Anza-Borrego Desert (1.5 hr E)
Julian (1 hr E)
Tierra del Sol (near Boulevard, 1.5 hr E)

If you must stay local, Torrey Pines State Beach (north end, away from cliffs) or Black’s Beach bluffs offer the darkest coastal views—still Bortle 6, so binoculars/telescopes are mandatory.

Comet Viewing Guide – La Jolla (or nearby dark site)
All three comets remain morning sky objects, rising in the east before dawn. Sunrise ~6:45 AM PST (La Jolla is on Pacific Time). Observe 3:00–5:30 AM PST for darkest skies.

1. 3I/ATLAS (C/2025 N1) – Virgo

Magnitude: ~9.8 (faint but visible in binoculars from dark sites)
Rises: ~2:30 AM PST
Best time: 4:00–5:15 AM PST
Altitude: ~25–30° (lower than CO due to southern latitude)
Direction: ESE (azimuth ~105°)
Location: ~8° east of Spica (mag 1.0)
How to find:
Face southeast.
Find Spica (bright white star).
Scan 1–2 binocular fields east with 10x50s.
Look for fuzzy green glow (no tail yet).

2. C/2025 V1 Borisov – Virgo

Magnitude: ~12.9 → 13.2 (very faint – needs telescope)
Rises: ~3:00 AM PST
Best time: 4:30–5:30 AM PST
Altitude: ~30–35°
Direction: SE (azimuth ~120°)
Location: ~12° east of Spica, near Libra border
How to find:
Use a 6-inch or larger telescope.
Star-hop from Spica → Zubenelgenubi (α Librae) → scan south.
Appears as a small, diffuse patch (~1' coma).

3. C/2025 K1 ATLAS – Leo (Easiest!)

Magnitude: ~10.5 (best of the three)
Rises: ~1:00 AM PST
Best time: 3:00–5:00 AM PST
Altitude: ~45–50° (highest of the trio)
Direction: E (azimuth ~90°)
Location: ~18° below Regulus (mag 1.4), tail points west
How to find:
Face due east.
Find Regulus (bright, slightly north of east).
Drop 3 binocular fields south.
Look for elongated fuzzy streak (tail visible in 10x50s from dark sites).

Apps: Use S tellarium (set location: La Jolla or Palomar Mtn) or Sky Safari with comet elements loaded.
Moon: Avoid Nov 8–12 (near full). Best: Nov 1–7 & Nov 13–20.
Weather: Check Clear Dark Sky for Palomar or Anza-Borrego.

Quick Action Plan (This Weekend)
Friday Nov 7 / Saturday Nov 8, 2025

Drive to Palomar Mountain (arrive by 3:30 AM).
Set up 10x50 binoculars on a tripod.
3:00 AM: Find C/2025 K1 in Leo (easiest).
4:00 AM: Sweep to 3I/ATLAS near Spica.
4:30 AM: Use telescope for C/2025 V1.
Leave by 5:45 AM before twilight.

Pro tip: Join the San Diego Astronomy Association — they often host comet-viewing star parties at Tierra del Sol during new moon weekends.
Clear skies — November 2025 is your best shot at a triple comet morning!

Truth?

Did you write this to Ernie behind my back Craig?

I will not talk to Bob ever again because he didn't listen to me when I demanded that he not implicate me/us in the Oct. 7th attacks by ACA with city council's cover, I told him that if he did, "WE'RE DONE", but he went ahead and blatantly did it anyway, so I'm done, and I thank God I'm 700 miles away from that bastard.

Since It is your choice to be here on my mostly musical thread, Hawks & Larks, I will answer you with the truth that you already know, yes I did write that email to Ernie.

And since you already asked me why, I won't tell you again.

Your treachery continues to leak out Craig. Here's another snippet of what has been leaked (November 7th, 2025):

Bravo, Bravo Ernie, I think, except for this part:

The truth is coming out. My home was invaded, I have been poisoned with a biohazard, over the commercialization of a public park ... I'm under threat of violence, dying from a deadly virus and stage 4 cancer, as your leaseholder has committed genocide.

Yor speech and letters show that you truly are doing the work.
I see the words, "I received...", "I will be bringing...", "I am seeking...", "I attached a...", "I am also...", "I believe...", "I will be...". You are you, instead of saying we.
You do know who you are and not Bob's opinion about "what he would say or do", or, "You're lying, LET ME FINISH, I WAS TALKING".
I see your anger and frustration on group text with bob and me to a certain extent, as wasted energy that you are now converting to positive energy toward the right people. Bob pushes buttons with "Polish" and gets away with it, but I see a change in you coming that will let him do his own thing with city council, but not respond badly to his "button pushing", and just say, "that's fine Bob, and thanks for your help, but I've got my own work to do", or something like that.
Don't be scared of showing your true self, the proud Argentinian Naturalized American Citizen with journeyman trade skills under your belt, and a sailor mouth to prove it. Ha.
I have made hard copies, as I do for all important stuff, so I don't lose them during a "Black Out".
C:+o)

I believe that was after your fake apology:

Craig on Oct 23, 2025 wrote:
With all the thousands of words back and forth between Ernie and you on emails and texts, I was stuck in the middle and over reacted to both of you, and stepped in hoping I could "balance", but my stupidity only put a bigger wedge in between two people who I know were/are friends.
I know that you have good intentions and you took me under your "wing" and taught me everything I know about computers. You are a good teacher and underestimate yourself as such.
I apologize for disrespecting you in the way that I did, I was wrong, and there is no, "but" here, and straying into the political and psychological world, where I have no business.
We live in different worlds, not saying one is better, but I'm a Vietnam Veteran, a husband, father, grandfather, and now great grandfather, and plumber, and have my opinion about Hang Gliding, and the takeover by USHPA, and I will continue writing about that.
I'm going to shy away from the Torrey corruption issue, because I've overstepped my bounds, especially with you, my teacher.
You are a speaker, I am not, my only "speeches" were 40 years of asking people, "How can I help you".
Forgiveness comes from our Lord through Jesus, but I can ask for forgiveness from you.
We live in a world of, "humans seeking love and acting badly", and here I acted badly.

On October 23, 2025, you openly admitted that you "acted badly" after being caught, and you publicly asked for forgiveness. But all the while, you've continued to "act badly" behind the scenes.

You posted a quote:

The truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it.
Let it loose; it will defend itself.
        St. Augustine

If that were really true, then there would be no lies. Unfortunately, the Truth needs people to seek it, find it, spread it, and yes, defend it.

The proper word is probably "ruse" (not "rouse"), but the only "ruse" here has been committed by you, Craig.

As for "sharing emails", did you really think you could continue to divide Ernie and I by telling us different stories behind our backs and not get caught?

And then, after being caught, you have the audacity to say that we are "Dark as a Dungeon"?

The only thing we seem to agree on is ... bye.
