Southwest Texas Artifact

Postby SamKellner » Thu May 29, 2014 6:58 pm

Hi,

I posted a picture of that "spear point" in the hang gliding topics because it is a flying thing, well kinda.

Here is another artifact that I found in the ancient campgrounds located behind the hangar at 49R.

It does not look like a projectile object so I will post it here.

Expert analysis shows that it was "painted" overall with red ochre. I think, then the lines were engraved into the white limestone rock.

Much grinding has been done to define the intended shape. It looks like some type of tool with the chisel end, and actually shows wear.

Probably not a stone to stone grinding tool. Maybe a skinning tool.

But painted red and the scene engraved in it makes me think it was a ceremonial display.

The small diagonal xing is really something.
