Aluminum 6061 and 7075

Postby Bob Kuczewski » Sun Apr 28, 2013 1:13 pm

One of our newest registrations was from someone using the name "6051" (good name  ), so I did a little research on that number and one of the directions it led me was to explore the aluminum alloys used in our gliders:

A little consultation with my Wills Wing Falcon 3 Owners Manual enlightened me that most of its frame is 7075, but the downtubes are 6061.

Thanks "6051" for choosing a name that prodded my (long overdue) exploration of aluminum alloys.

Re: Aluminum 6061 and 7075 // "6051"

"6051" is a kite wing anchored by a hang glider pioneer, if you put your poetry hat on for a moment:
The "6051" is a name for a person that is the kite's wing. The tether is "inspiration and encouragement" from the kite system's anchor: Jim Hobson. The "6051" is the nephew of Jim Hobson. "6051" has been flying in TV production circles in great part because of the tether (encouragement) from the foundational resistive set of the kite system: Jim Hobson.
Jim Hobson belongs to a historical club of pre-1963 that makes it a silly unfair thing to later claim "invention" over the Rogallo four-boom hang glider. Cheers to Jim Hobson and his nephew "6051" who has visited our forum hereon. "6051" has searched the Internet about his uncle and then wrote to Bob and JoeF. The most recent news is in the topic thread Jim Hobson where I now see "6051" has also posted directly. :)
