FLIGHT PARK IN A BOX
To HG: Clubs, Schools, Manufacturers, Flying Buddies, and other interested folks
From: Cowboy Up Hang Gliding, LLC (http://www.cuhanggliding.com)

Many years ago Rob Kells mentioned an idea: a “Flight Park in a Box.” Well, here it is; We bring the “Box”; You bring the Pilots. We literally set it up in a field and create an instant Flight Park in YOUR own backyard.

1. HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE OFFER

  • Aerotow Clinics & Signoffs
  • Solo Aerotow Flights (2K or 4K AGL )
  • USHPA Ratings & Special Skills Signoffs
  • Landing Clinics (with video)
  • Tandem Instructor’s Clinic (T1, T2 & T3)
  • Tandem Flights (students, friends/family/co-workers)
  • Tow signoff for Private Pilots
  • ATP Signoffs
  • Light Sport Repairman Services (Annual Condition Inspections for Airplane & Weight Shift)

    Our Ground Equipment:

26ft Trailer, outfitted with bathroom facility, awnings for lots of shade, water, 110V solar power, Aviation and 2m radio base units, picnic table, Adirondack chairs, windsocks, and other creature comforts

    Our Aviation Equipment:

Moyes Bailey Dragonfly, Apache Northwing towing Trike, dollies, tandem glider, solo gliders, fins, bridles, releases and more.

2. WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO

Supply the Pilots & Location (i.e. landing zone, airport, farm field)

3. GOT YOUR OWN TUG?

We can still offer the same benefits outlined above in combination with your tug

4. THIS IS NOT OUR FIRST RODEO - WE HAVE DONE IT WITH OTHER CLUBS

We set up in three different places for a Montana Club. One event allowed them to soar a mountain range which was completely inaccessible – no roads, no foot launch. It was the first time anyone had ever soared that range. Needless to say they were ecstatic. For all their events they merely gained permission from the airport manager to hold our event.

Next the Idaho Club followed suit and obtained permission from the Airport in Mountain Home, Idaho for a fun four day flying event.

On hand at each event were pilots, students, friends, family members, co-workers, everyone was welcome for some fun flying, barbeques, camping, storytelling and learning.

At home recently, we serviced two active clubs in Colorado and Oregon that had no tandem instructors. They came to us and after a 3-day clinic they earned Tandem ratings.

The atmosphere surrounding these events are the same as a fly-in or a fun competition. You take off, land and often camp at the flying site.

Other Benefits:

Want to join the big aerotow comps or go to the WRE, we have signed off many a competition pilot who had no previous aerotow experience.

We have the certifications to give all USHPA Hang Gliding Ratings and in some cases Appointments to qualified pilots. We are happy to work with your local instructors and observers.

Also on hand will be a FAA Certified Light Sport Repairman-Maintenance for Airplanes and Weight Shift, and that same person is a Certified Rotax Level II Repairman. This way, we can do annual condition inspections, 100hr inspections and repairs on your members’ ELSA and SLSA aircraft.

ABOUT US:

We have been operating a successful flight park in the area of Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the past 9 years and will continue operations as usual, from May through September. We have a U.S. Forest Service Commercial Use Permit from the Caribou-Targhee Ranger District and are in good standing; but October through April belongs to the Flight Park in a box. So this is when we are available to you.

Prior to establishing our successful business in Jackson Hole we worked at Wallaby Ranch for 3 years as a tug pilot and a tandem pilot. So with regard to the flying business, as they say, rest assured, “we got this thing.” Have a look at our website: http://www.cuhanggliding.com for information about us or our Facebook page.

And since we have operated out of airports in the past; each of us has a Private Pilot’s License and currently fly adjacent to an airport in Wyoming, we have extensive experience with airports and aerotow operations on and in the vicinity of General Aviation airports.

Look, we’re not looking to “move-in”, this is a temporary base in your backyard. The cost of this is comparable to what established flight parks around the country charge. Interested? Give us a call or drop us an email, we’d love to talk to you. In the meantime, bandy it around with folks and see what they think.

Kindest Regards,

Bart is top notch.
I got to attend a clinic of sorts, last year when he was in SanAntonio, Tx.
He is very easy to understand. Has great instructor abilities.
However, it don't sound like the box is big enough to bring the Dragonfly tug. :problem:

I did it, spring of 2000, with a 24' enclosed trailer. Dragonfly and Airborne trike tug fit quite nicely.
Got to meet Rob Kells and Bart, at the time. (Wallaby)
Bart almost got shot for keeping chickens with a rooster.

Nomadic instruction/instructors was part of the 'FreeUSHGA' idea.
That was when times were better and I thought there was hope that Americans would awake from their deep sleep, LaLa Land. Now it looks a better bet that pilots will end up living in a box.

Super!!!

When I get an email message like that, I never know if I'm posting someone great or "not so great". So I just post it to spread the information without passing judgement. It's good to year that you approve.

The two are not mutually exclusive. We can keep the flight park in the box, and still try to think outside of it with regard to the rest of our problems in this country.

I like the "Nomadic instruction" idea, and I hope that they'll have lots of success!!!
