Welcome, Justin, :salute:

I entered UCLA several times.... first in 1960, September, just out of high school and receiving a UCLA Dykstra Clarence A. Dykstra Memorial Scholarship; my focus on an overload course set was bothered by other interests; eventually I graduated from a different school about 25 years later. But UCLA saw its first Frisbee flight from Dykstra Hall from my hand toss, one of the several roots of my hang gliding future.

My daughter Jennifer graduated from UCLA: http://www.jenniferintouch.com/

You remind me of a throat surgery I received at the UCLA Medical Center; all actions were well done and the result was good.

Best to you, Justin, in your medical studies!

We're not the largest hang gliding group in the world, but we have some of the best people who've been around in the sport for a very very long time.

Take Joe Faust for example. Joe was one of the original founders of the sport and he's still active today. Despite Joe's video posts (above), please rest assured that none of the Hawks will either sit on you or rip you into pieces to feed their young.

I hope you're having a great New Year's Eve yourself, and I look forward to reading about your "hatching" in 2023.

I mean look at all the First's that at a Newbees disposal. Firsts such as; Tour first Launch, Your First Flight, The first time that You really stick a landing. First time when You fly in Ridge Lift. First timer that You Thermal. Your first XC. Yes there are so many firsts for a Hatchling. I really hope that You have all these firsts and More!

Hey Justin, I recommend mounting a camera on the glider to assist your learning while hang gliding.

Thanks for the welcome and tips everyone! I've been busy with board exam studying but I think I'll schedule my first lesson for next week...this seems like a fun sport with a lot of opportunity -- and substantial reward -- for growth :)

Greetings. My name is Eric. A brief history of my flying experience...
I started to fly in the summer of 1997 when I lived in Ohio. I flew up in Michigan, learning aerotowing with Norm Lesnow. I flew until 2001 with Tracy Tillman and Lisa Colletti. I accumulated around 40 solo flights and 18 hours of airtime.
I've lived in California since 2003 and got back into hang gliding in the spring of 2023.
I've been training with Dan DeWeese and Tim Ward at Andy Jackson and Andy Beem and the Windsports crew at Dockweiler.
I'm taking my time, since I'm new to footlaunching. But, I have my own Falcon 195 and practice quite a bit.
I also started a project called http://www.HangGlidingFlightSchool.com to encourage new pilots to take up the sport. Here is a video, giving more details on the project:

Hello World ! (that what said the first computer of the history)

What was this Swiss guy doing at 3AM this July 7th 2024 on USHAWKS ?.. (are you in front of your breakfast ?)

First you have to thank's Bob for having answered my call at 3AM to give me the password to register !!

Second, the very first reason I registered is to get in touch with JoeF, but why him ?

Have you eard about his TPHG project ? Personaly I did just a couple hours ago. (better late than never)

Am I insomniac ? No, just in the other side of the World, in Switzerland (what, Sweden ?) no, Switzerland, a counrty without war, between France and Austria (not AustrALia), Germany and Italy, so it is time to eat for me when it is time to sleep for you.

Okay, this Swiss guy have eard about the Tiny Pack Hang Glider projet into a 5ft long bag, what a big deal...

Yes, but this Swiss guy is crazy enough to launch a new hang glider project capable to be packed into a 4.6ft bag ! (0.4 less than the goal)

Got it ? Might be crazy, might be impossible, well, futur will tell because the prototype of this glider has been put in production yesterday. (July 6th 2024)

No shame, even if it screws up, I'll keep you posted.

Finaly, it seams to have nice people in California... First Bob on the phone, Joe soon hopefuly, Erika Klein, and many others I haven't eard about yet, so I have to schedgule a trip in California, isn't it ?

Sincerly yours

Welcome aboard Florian!

As Florian mentioned, he lives in Switzerland and he called me around noon (his time) to register on U.S. Hawks. Of course, noon his time was 3am California time.      But we had a great conversation about hang gliding, and as you can see, he was successfully registered.

Semper Fidelis wrote:Second, the very first reason I registered is to get in touch with JoeF, but why him ?

In our conversation, Florian mentioned that he is working on a goal very close to Joe's Tiny Pack Hang Glider (TPHG) design. I think it's great that the 5 foot short pack glider is attracting more interest. Please post links to any more information on the project.

Thanks Florian, and welcome to the U.S. Hawks!
