George Augustine Taylor

Start: http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/taylor_bio.html

Early Australian hang glider builder and pilot: George Augustine Taylor. And then shortly after George's flight: his wife Florence flew the hang glider.
Circa 1909.

Thanks to ARP for lead here.

=================
Note that George was below one of the wings of the glider; he hung from the upper wing via struts and wires. He grasped the bar below to establish some control of the flight.
Recall how parallel lines may geometrically be seen as meeting at an infinite point forming a kind of triangle : ) :wave:

Museum quote:
The original “Taylor glider” was the aircraft used by George Taylor for the first heavier than air flight in Australia,
which occurred on the 5 December 1909 on the beach at Narrabeen, New South Wales. On that historic day the glider
was also flown by Edward Hallstrom, Charles Schultz, and Mrs Taylor and Mrs Schultz.

FIVE PILOTS OF THE DAY:

Edward Hallstrom
Charles Schultz
Mrs. Taylor
Mrs. Schultz

Notice in the photograph that the beams holding the box kite tail go to the plane of the leading lower wing. This is in contrast to Charles Voison's earlier 1907 glider where similar beams go forward to position midway between the leading two wings. http://www.earlyaviators.com/evoisin1.htm
