d: Incident at Fort Funston.
"Flying is like being in heaven...and this is the best place to do it," said advanced glider pilot Rafael Lavin. I stay here longer than I do at my own house, and my wife is ok with that...it's because I love this sport...I love it up there in the clouds."

I knew him as "Raffy" and he was a good man. He helped me with site guidance whenever I visited, and he remained uncorrupted by some of the negative influences at that site.

Raffy spoke up for fairness and he wasn't cowed by the insiders. He wasn't afraid of being an independent voice on any topic.

Raffy loved to fly and I can't think of anyone at Funston that I'd miss more than him.

Every human at every point in history has an opportunity to choose courage over cowardice. Look around and you will find that opportunity in your own time.

The caption at the club site has "Moopark" but I am betting that the site was at Moorpark, California.

===================
Add for research various spellings of
Raffy
Raffie
Raffee
for his nickname.

That sure looks like Moorpark CA. I flew there several times and it looks familiar.
