Titles of magazines are not copyrightable, but might be trade marked if highly unique and not generic. Since
"hang gliding" is generic, then such cannot be trademarked for a product or magazine. Had an org named and trademarked their magzaine "SpoofywingX" then they might be able to protect that name as a title of their magazine. StudyHereArticle

I once pounded on the Duluth MN TV Studio door to tell the weatherman that I had wasted a 180 mile round trip because of his (stupid) weather report.
Felix Humphrey told me he was not a meteorologist but only a weatherman that reads the the NWS forecast, "Off the wire."
The wind was North 15 to 20 mph but only made whitecaps half way across the narrow end of western Lake Superior.
The second half of the lake (the downwind half) was glassy smooth. I asked Felix, "How is that possible?"
He didn't know.
Much later I figured it out that the cold lake water cooled the air above the water eventually lifting the warm land air upward. I'm sure the sailboat people had that figured out long before there were hang gliders.

Yes Bill and there might also be a dangerous rotor right where those two air masses meet and the warm air rises above the cold. That is a common occurrence at Guadalupe Dunes CA and it has caused some serious accidents there. A strong, cool, sea breeze front moves on to the land and boosts the warmer land air above it. If a hang glider gets into it, at just the right time, the soaring is fantastic. But at the wrong time - watch out! I've experienced both.

"skysurfing" has had a trial run in early 1970s; it has some part of our history. But "hang glider" has a huge deep presence in the literature. Using the craft: hang gliding, hang-gliding. It is tough to slide atop the atmosphere; it is easier to glide in the atmosphere.

Seeing as how I started sailing before I started hang gliding and own a small 20' "yacht" (which is sometimes called a pocket yacht) here's one more idea for a new name for hang gliding -

Sky Dingy !

Not that different from Sail Plane.
