Hello U.S. Hawks Board Members

Joe Faust has been creating topics for individual pilots in the Historical Committee forum for a long time. Each pilot page is written by Joe and contains a sketch of their history and other noteworthy information. However, these Pilot pages are currently mixed with other historical topics not about specific pilots.

Joe and I spoke on the phone this evening, and Joe suggested that it might be good to separate the actual pilot topics from the rest of the Historical information. Joe and I both liked the idea of moving the new forum to the main section, so I've set up a new forum called:

    U.S. Hang Gliding Pilots

At Joe's request, I've also moved some of the individual pilot topics from the historical section to the new forum. I left a link in the original location so they're in both places. I did this as a prototype, but I'd like to get approval from the Board for the change.

  I move that we create a new subforum named "U.S. Hang Gliding Pilots" (within the current "U.S. Hawks Hang Gliding Association" forum) where individual pages from individual pilots can be kept. I further move that Joe Faust be given the task of directing the details of managing that forum and setting rules subject to intervention by the full Board at any time.

Hi all.
I would like to vote yes but I have a very small issue to bring up. I think the forum should be entitled U.S. Hang Glider Pilots rather than hang gliding pilots.

I think it fits better. I.e., we don't call sail plane pilots "sail planing" pilots. We don't call commercial jet pilots "commercial jetting" pilots. As a pilot, I fly a hang glider not a "hang gliding".

If folks agree with my suggested small change I don't think we need to start over. If so, then my vote would be   YES   to adding a new forum entitled "Hang Glider Pilots"

Our voting is a little unorthodox, but the motion passes either way with clear "Yes" votes by Bill, Bob, and Joe (3 out of 5).

Sam's seconding could be taken as a "Yes", but people can second a motion because they endorse it being brought to a vote but still vote against it. I would personally take Sam's second as a "Yes", but if some parliamentarian challenged it, I think they'd win. Sam is welcome to clear that up with a "Yes" or "No" vote any time.

Scott's "Yes" vote is conditional upon a name change, so It's technically not a "Yes". But aside from the name change, Scott seems to agree with the concept. Scott is also welcome to clarify his vote on the motion as it stands.

Since the original motion has passed with at least 3 votes, any requested name changes or other modifications should be made with a new motion. The original motion explicitly mentioned intervention by the Board to allow for ongoing policy changes. Those could include name changes. I would probably vote "Yes" on Scott's name change suggestion, but I'd want to hear all sides.

Thanks again to the Board for demonstrating how quickly an organization can act when not constrained to physical meetings.

I go by Joseph, Joe, JoeF, and other names. I will mine both spaces. I'd like to have Google Search see both spiced about.

For over 40 years I captured much under "hang glider" and still do: http://www.HangGliderMagazine.com etc.

USHPA went with "Hang Gliding" in name and magazine (before Pilot)
USHawks went with "Hang Gliding" in name
sg went with "hang gliding"
Most hang gliding clubs and associations went with "hang gliding".
Pilots may do hang gliding, triking, jet skiing, gliding, soaring, etc.
Hang gliding pilots fly hang gliders.

It looks like Joe has addressed Scott’s suggestion and I like Scott’s suggestion.
I waited until 5pm eastern time Tuesday following the holiday weekend for any discussion before
I voted. Still the discussion period could have been longer.
Also I will text the directors next time to give a heads up that a motion is in the queue.
