The rescue crew chief told the reporter it was a paraglider.
They pulled Ed Higgins off Slide when he killed himself on a hang glider in June of 2015, so they know what a hang glider is.

The same news service got that one right.
Often the news people act on a misinformed caller to break the story.
I think that's what happened here, because they got the on-scene video story right.

EMERGENCY services are working to rescue a female hang-glider stuck 30m up a tree on the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Crews were called to the incident at Mount Tamborine about 12.30pm.
Queensland Ambulance said the situation was being described “as a difficult rescue effort”
QAS Officer in Charge Sean Breeden said the hang-glider had fallen through the tree canopy and had become entangled.
“She’s talking to us, she’s saying she’s un injured and in no pain,” he said.
“The tree is definitely strong enough to hold her, but it is a little uncomfortable for her,” he said.
Mr Breeden said there was some rain and wind in the area, although an earlier warning of storms had passed.
Paramedics will assess the woman when she is safely on the ground.
A QFES spokesman said one of the crew members at the scene was a trained arborist, and was expected to climb the tree to reach the woman.

Unfortunately, no egg was found.

Issaquah hang glider gets tangled in trees

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A hang-glider became stuck in the air when his parachute got caught in trees Wednesday morning, says the King County Sheriff’s Department. The man was in the middle of a tandem jump from the top of Poo Poo Point when he hit a patch of trees, leaving him dangling a few hundred yards from his jumping point. Eastside Fire was called to the scene, and the man was able to be rescued.

I got stuck in the air, once, so I know what it's like. I did spiral dives for an hour at 11,000 feet under a White Mountain wave cloud without being able to lose any altitude. God, was I sore! My hang glider had aluminium tubing in it, tho... -- RM

Congratulations Joe Faust-
*I also recall the early time, all most innocent, we stepped through time-
We unfurled recycled wings with a painter on 60 Minutes- feet dashed in sand
Grinning you showered with Zest on TV, we didn’t see the bird machine intended-
We had to “Change Our Horizontal into the Vertical” before we flew
As duly noted by an old Venice Wino – strolling on the Metro Depot grass-
We seared albumen into alloy upon a roof top Mid Day “dark room”-
Which dream like seemed as a Stairway to Heaven -
A dusty Parking Garage became Universal Flight Control Headquarters –
In some Hobbit Fantasy Realm of Antique Autos
Each Mistake had a positive result , lifting us higher – closer to Heaven
So we worked hard to think of the most humorously outrageous concepts
Eventually even Dr. Paul outside the box used McDonalds wrappers as fuselage,
Meat Market Shrink Wrap became wing surface &
Skateboard wheels made landing gear & put the tail back in front like Wilbur
For a moment leading Edge Scientists threw away Slide Rules
& began to take their Ques from Hang Gliding Boys in T-shirts & cutoffs
Then we lived Hanging Loose & Low & Slow…Inspiring the all World beneath us
Sharing all our dreams & ideas with one another , Smiling as we Gave- Everything Away

A sport spawned from Word of Mouth , the Underground Network began-

You have been the elastic motor to energize the propeller of our dreams
We thank You Joe , for having the Spirit of the Renaissance Men who leapt before you-
Breathing Inspiration Life into the lives of Generations around you.
I pause to humble myself knowing my life is richer and more full

And now Joe Faust - the Patron Saint of hang gliding - is banned from even posting on hanggliding.org while some of his so-called "friends" prattle on about their own selfish cares without speaking up for the man who launched their sport. You know who you are.

I'm sorry to bring up this sore subject, but the injustice done to Joe Faust is a stain on the sport of hang gliding and a stain on all of those who continue to ignore it and thereby allow it.

CONTRAST that "paragliding training video, (with only grunting, and heavy breathing, for music), by 'Fly With Greg', and watch ALL the body movements of 'the pilot' to "control" the collapsible wing in a wind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With this True Hang Gliding Training Video, by John Heiney, choreographing beautifully, the music of Three Doors Down, "Kryptonite" and Danosongs, "The Streatham Hill Gods"

Less is more, using a stable airframe, and a whole lot less energy to actually 'Fly' the wing.

I Know "This Guy" Ari can not speak for all "Para-Chute Gliders", but,
Way Too Complex, Way Too Much Information for new fliers. My Opinion.
