Kiting Foundations of Kite Hang Gliding

Many founders in 1800s totally understood that replacing the hand or earth or rock or running boat or chariot with a hung mass (perhaps human body) and letting such mass drop with the pull of gravaity, then the kite would still fly with a resultant that gained a new name: gliding. Free-flight kiting is what BobK does frequently with his Falcon 3 wing; he attaches his harnessed body via a short kite line and then sets himself to fall through the air towing in free-flight the wing he has tethered; he becomes via the force of gravity the resistive set of the falling kite system; his hang lines are the tether set of the free-flight kite system; his Falcon 3 wing comprises the wing set of the free-flight kite system. Such might give some incentive to explore kiting in general historically and see the taken opportunities to bring on hang gliders and some opportunities that have been little-to-none explored forms of hang gliding. The world of kiting forms a huge opportunity for bringing on forms of hang gliding.

The facts are incomplete. It misses the John Worth contributions. It misses the actual sport lecture notes of Rogallo for sport hang gliding. Ten-year adjustment is recommended for the article. The article misses the correct birth of the Otto Lilienthal-based mid-1900s renaissance by ten years. 1960 may be correctly stated as a firm year; a 13-yr old boy looking at gliding history and kites and scouting activities built his hang glider and made an off-earth small liftoff …and that boy continued to advance hang gliding in big ways even up to 2013 introducing scouts and children to the world of hang gliding. John Worth of NASA under direct site [sic, sight] of Francis Rogallo had the extremely simple four-boomed wing carrying payloads using the below-wing A-frame to control the position of kited and gliding payloads of many sizes from scale to huge masses.

James Hobson just passed away on April 26, 2013, and his formal memorial service is on May 23, 2013, at the Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills site; such memorial as you recognize is on Otto Liliethal's birthday.
