Davis keeps the paragliding slaughter alive by banning me.
That's some heavy karma.
900 or so when I left.
Over 1300 fatalities now.
People often deserve their fate.
PG Forum. USHPA.
But I tried.
No Oz Report is a weight off my shoulders.
Thanks to BobK for providing an honest place to post.

I thought I had a reference for Mike's banning from the Oz Forum, but I haven't been able to find it again. So it could be my mistake or my misinterpretation of something I read. In either case, I've removed Mike's name from list.

Also, I'm glad people are paying attention to this list. I'd like to keep it current so people don't just "disappear" without a trace. So if you know of anyone who's banned, please post a link to the actual banning here and I'll continually update the first post to keep it current.

Thanks Brian and Tad for your help in making this more accurate.

.... Perhaps Jack Lambie was ahead of his time, I don't think he ever joined the USHPA he told me once, when they started demanding certification he lost interest in the sport , specifically he explained that all those who were "first" to get SCHGA/USHGA certification as USHGA Hang Glider "Hang Rated" pilots ...had to be rated by each other because there were no rated pilots at the time the rating method started , you just went out there and flew and the other dude just signed off on your card and visa-versa.... it was sort of a unilateral buddy-buddy thing.... For me , I lost all desire with the whole idea of flying freely when the regulations came along........ Paragliders had no right to force themselves into the USHGA and commandeer control over the the USHGA .... yet one more reason for loosing interest in what once was a Hang Glider/Gliding Organization ...now Neil tell us how you really feel?

You all deserve the Purple Heart of Free Speech Blogging. I read the postings the paragliders made and I doubt they were banned. However, it has gone to the Supreme Court and here are the results.

http://blog.constitutioncenter.org/2014 ... ars-later/
On July 3, 1978, the Supreme Court issued its historic verdict in the George Carlin “seven dirty words” case, a decision that still holds sway over the use of indecent and obscene language on television, and in a new era of mass communications.

Carlin himself wasn’t involved directly in the case, which was called Federal Communications Commission V. Pacifica Foundation. He had already won a legal verdict, in an unrelated case, several years prior to the Supreme Court ruling after a judge threw out his arrest in Milwaukee for performing the comedy routine at a summer festival.

It was a New York radio station that was in hot water with the FCC for playing a recording of Carlin’s “Filthy Words” monologue on October 30, 1973, at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. The broadcast was heard by John H. Douglas, who said he heard the words while driving with his young son in a car. Douglas complained to the FCC, and almost five years later, the case was decided by the Court, with Justice John Paul Stevens writing the majority decision after a 5-4 split among the Justices.

The FCC had warned Pacifica, which owned the station, that it found the language in Carlin’s routine indecent, and it was prohibited by FCC statute. The FCC didn’t fine Pacifica, but threatened to take into account any complaints when Pacifica next sought to renew its broadcast license.

The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit reversed the decision in 1977, by a 2-1 margin, with each judge writing separate opinions. Judge Tamm said that the order represented censorship, and Chief Judge Bazelon said the FCC’s order “must be narrowly construed to cover only language that is obscene or otherwise unprotected by the First Amendment.”

But Judge Leventhal argued the FCC correctly concluded that the content was indecent because it was broadcast during the daytime and the FCC had a legitimate interest in protecting children.

...etc

About "hang ratings". The only hang rating I hold is one of those first ones that were given by a fellow pilot. I saw the "hand writing on the wall" and got the rating so that i could be sure I would be able to continue flying the sites I was using. When the USHGA went to the next rating system I got a letter (I probably still have it somewhere) saying something like (don't remember the exact words) my rating would be considered as one of the pioneer HG rating groups. I never bothered to get a new rating because nobody ever asked for my rating at the sites I flew.

I love the reaction I sometimes get when I tell people that we designed, built, and taught ourselves to fly our gliders in those days. :o

BTW - I used to give a ride to the SCHGA meetings in Downtown LA to the man who held private pilots license #3. It is in the Smithsonian now.

Should I join the paraglider forum so I can eventually join the Banned of Brothers list?

Hi All.

Crikey. I’ve just seen this.

I’ve never been banned from anywhere or anything in my life, it’s all I can do to get a parking ticket!
It’s true Mr Strubs and I aren’t exactly engaged but I think if you look at my posts on the Oz Report you will see that I’m a long way from being the aggressor. I’ve never posted anything that deserves a ban (not that it matters).

I’m fairly sure I’ve contributed to getting a thread or two locked down because my opinion goes against the narrative and I refusal to relent when the opposition start to ‘play the man’ having little else to offer.

I’m now in my 41st year as hang glider pilot (all be it with a long break, something that gives me a unique perspective) including many years at the sharpest of sharp ends when it comes to towing hang gliders.
By sharp end I mean one of the few people, at the time, taking the risk of clipping into many a new towing configuration without turning upside down.
I can generally spot a tribal bull******* a mile off and am prepared to debate despite the difficulties of having a mild dose of dyslexia, something that gives Mr Strubs much enjoyment. But I am getting butter. :D

My biggest ‘downfall’ as far as the Oz Report is concerned is I happen to agree with someone who is not exactly flavour of the month, but never the less is ‘right’ on so so many issues.

Hi Mike,

This topic was started to raise awareness of the "eradication" of pilots by forum operators. The practice reminds me of what has happened in real life when dictators either haul people off to prison or execute them in the dead of night. Because there's often no record in those cases, it's hard for a community to rise up against it.

Unfortunately, most dictators don't maintain a public list of who's been jailed or killed or silenced, and the people who've "disappeared" generally have no way to speak up for themselves. So the tracking of these abuses is often done by hearsay, and that's what happened in your case. As soon as Brian reported otherwise, I corrected the list.

I think our forums would be much healthier if all forum operators would maintain their own public "banned" list. That would not only let people know what's going on, but it would give the operator a little more incentive to carefully consider the decision to ban someone. Right now it's too easy for a forum operator to get annoyed and just make a person disappear. This list is intended to make that decision a little more difficult for all forum operators ... including myself.

I made my first flights in late 78, and my instructor had an odd way of saying UUUUSHGA that showed his contempt and disrespect. As a new pilot, I didn't know anything about it, but I was never much of a "joiner" and I was fine not having to belong to anything to fly.

When I came back to the sport in 2004, I was going through Joe Greblo's school, and I resisted joining USHPA or any organization during my Dockweiler and tandem flying. But Joe made it clear that I had to join before I could fly solo, and I reluctantly complied. I didn't like being forced to join a monopoly, but I accepted it as a matter of practicality.

Isn't it funny how things work themselves out?
