Ushawks would like Torrey Pines and Eagle Paragliding to review the incident. The conditions look mild so what is going on.

The good news is the UShawks recommends the San Diego City Council be reellected because of the low accident and death rate at Torrey Pines.

Ushawks is a results oriented organization.

However we would still like to see BobK to be readmitted to the Ushpa insurance program beacuse our AI could shut the sport down with a single keystroke.

Is paragliding safe?
A 2022 study published by Sage Journals explored injury rates among paragliding participants. Of 1,788 responses, 6% reported visiting a hospital or missing work due to paragliding-related injuries.

81% of the survey’s respondents did not report needing medical attention or time off work due to injury. An additional 13% did not specify an answer, per the study.

Furthermore, 2% of those who sustained injuries reported spending at least 24 hours in the hospital.

According to the U.S. Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, paragliding pilots are three to six times more likely to die during the sport than when operating a motor vehicle.

Adequate training, experience, and good decision-making skills can help paragliders lower some of the risks associated with the sport.

Thanks for the article Doug. I read it and watched some of the video. I always appreciate people sharing information. So thanks.

However, I worry about people stating what the US Hawks would like or recommend. Even I can't speak for the U.S. Hawks Board, so I don't think it's appropriate for anyone (other than the Board itself) to state what the U.S. Hawks would like or recommend.

As one of the Board members myself, I follow those topics pretty closely, and I'm not aware of any decisions regarding Eagle Paragliding or recommending the reelection of the San Diego City Council. Can you provide a reference to anything supporting your comments?

I’ve not seen any motion, second, or vote before the Hawk Board of Directors concerning support or non-support of council members for the City of San Diego California.
Individual members of the US HAWKS may have expressed personal opinions about City Councilors’ positions on hang gliding which is welcomed here.
