Speedflying overtakes hanggliding 4 to 1, and paragliding

Postby dhmartens » Wed Oct 05, 2022 8:46 am

I got the new Ushpa Pilot magazine and noticed the cover lists 3 sports:
"Hang Gliding + Paragliding + Speedflying".

In the ratings section about 245 people earned Speedflying ratings 560 earned Paragliding ratings and 60 earned Hang glider ratings.
(March, April, May, and June)
Doug

The rating official for speedflying was "Chair Safety and Training Committee".

I have an idea; Why don't We HG Pilots Propose an idea to Paraglider Pilots that We HG Pilots simply leave the organization USPA to the Paraglider Pilots. Heck They have through Raw numbers already have taken Control. We Han Glider Pilots shoulds accept the reality that when We allowed Paraglider Pilots to join Our organization back in the Eighties, that we signed off aa the rightful proprietors of our organization USHGA. I mean we should just face facts. We need to leave USHGPA, We need to realize that They; {OWN US}. Look, I mean if there is anything right, or Correct Here. Paraglider Pilots should adhere to the Statement; {What Goes Around, Comes Around} I mean We HG Pilots were Kind Enough to lend Paraglider Pilots a hand when they were without an organization. Now We need help developing "OUR OWN ORGANIZATION"

The U.S. Hawks is our own organization.

The only things we don't have (yet) are thousands of members and optional insurance. And purchasing insurance is really just a matter of having thousands of members.

So if you really want our own organization, all you need to do is promote the U.S. Hawks wherever you can. Start new chapters. Encourage existing clubs to become U.S. Hawks chapters. Encourage your friends to get U.S. Hawks ratings. Post about hang gliding on ushawks.org. Post about U.S. Hawks on other forums. Volunteer to serve on our Board.

Talk is cheap. Please step up and do something to help us grow. As Rick Masters said, hang gliding is being murdered by USHPA. Don't sit around watching it. Do something now before it's too late!!

I think the 5 foot portable hang glider movement may be able to compete with the new fad, speed gliding. A speed glider weighs 3 lbs and fits in the palm of your hand. A helmet and reserve shoot weigh 10 to 15 lbs. Just hike up the hill and fly down.

The inflatable surfboard is a wing and can easily be reinforced into a wing, biplane, triplane or quadwing.

The big issue in the magazine is the drones. Hang gliders will need to fly with a becon as drones and the heavily funded political group will be flying outside ine of site.
This will add $300 to the cost of the sport.

To promote, it could be said, is to also publish on other platforms as Rick is doing here.
We all know he is a long time USHAWKS writer, videographer,
musician and a Hang Glider, and looking at USHAWKS as sort of a "novel" like I do,
he is quite the character amongst the, "Banned" of Brothers that you all are.
Me too in a way, although my time in a hang glider was a short ground skim and a whack way back in 1972.

USHAWKS and it's chapters I feel, is prime for a new division which I have called, "HawkEyes" for a better word, which could further promote Hang Gliding, it's training and alternative insurance programs, using things like "Podcasts" and Youtube and Rumble to get the word out. And out of the "Forum" type of platform. Don't get me wrong, Forums are great but as Bob said, "talk is cheap". Question; could chapters form LLC's within USHAWKS to give them more clout?
The word "Hang Gliding" has been diffused into "The Ushpas" media giant, and unless we combat, "theirs" with "Ours", paragliding will continue to be the choice of many many uninformed recreational flyers.

Thank you Bob and all, who have given me a pallet to ply my simple wares, in my H0pinion.
