New USHPA Requirement for Chapters

Postby Bob Kuczewski » Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:01 pm

It was recently brought to my attention (thanks to you-know-who-you-are :salute: ) that USHPA has added another requirement to their Chapter regulations:

ALL USHPA Chapters SHALL participate in ALL USHPA Retaliation

Of course, they didn't quite word it that way. They were a bit more subtle and quietly tacked it on to the end of SOP 06-01.03 (D):

USHPA SOP 06-01.03 wrote:
D. Not less than 60% of chapter officers must be USHPA members. Non-pilot chapter members may serve as chapter officers provided they do not hold more than 40% of the elected officer positions. The 40% limit does not apply to non-pilot officers who are USHPA members. Expelled or suspended USHPA members may not be chapter members or serve as chapter officers.

It appears that last sentence was added within the last year. Is there any record of who introduced that motion? Is there any record of who voted for that change? If you happen to be a USHPA member, drop them a line and see if they'll tell you who is responsible.

If there's any remaining doubt as to USHPA's dishonesty, read the introduction to that SOP:

USHPA SOP 06-01 wrote:
06-01.01 Introduction

Chapters are member-controlled clubs affiliated with USHPA to encourage a close relationship between USHPA and local hang gliding and paragliding communities throughout the country.

Chapters are autonomous organizations that are financially independent from USHPA and are self-governing. Chapters are, however, required to satisfy the standards and meet the requirements as set forth in this SOP.

Right.

Chapters are "member controlled" ... except that USHPA can decide who your members are.

Chapters are "autonomous organizations" and "self-governing" ... except that USHPA can decide who your officers are.

LIARS.

What does this tell us about Ushpa in regards to the USHawks?

It is afraid. But that's a shame because everything that the Torrey Hawks and the US Hawks has done for the last 10 years has been directed at one purpose: fairness for everyone in the sport of hang gliding. It's sad that none of USHPA's leaders (and that includes Ken Andrews and Alan Crouse) have been able to see that.

Does anyone know if Ken Andrews and/or Alan Crouse voted for that SOP change?
Doug, could you ask them?
