US Hawks text face: drafting preliminary phrases
All are invited to propose phrases, correct phrases, modify phrases ... that one day might be used in formal US Hawks mission statements and bylaws.

Start:
Phrase offer:
The US Hawks Hang Gliding Association is proud to serve the great sport of hang gliding.

Phrase offer:
The parachute activity of "paragliding" belongs to the auspices of parachuting associations.
The US Hawks holds that "paragliding" is distinct from "hang gliding."

How about resurrecting "The US Hang Gliding Association" using "Hawks" for Chapter names?

Proffer:
All hang gliders will meet the current standards (2015) for negative and positive load tests used by the Hang Gliding Manufacture’s Association. (HGMA)

Rick, perhaps; U$Pa might still be able to cash checks using your suggested old name; but normally, a corporation can have only one legal name, I guess; do we have a lawyer opinion on this name thing. USHGA United States Hang Gliding Association might, as you suggest, be top drawer.

BillC, the pro-offered HGMA neg and pos load test would keep out some niche conservative HG hobby activity. Greblo expressed to me that he would not want to see
"authorities" having to distinguish "types of hang gliders" for operation at conservative bunny slopes. If "all" hang gliders by members have to meet neg and pos loads to HGMA standard< then all hang gliding would be pushed into vanilla kind of slots disallowing some effective very conservative activity.

I've thought about using US Hang Gliding Association ... since USHPA seems to have abandoned it. But I can just imagine all the headaches that would bring with it.

It turns out that USHHGA is pretty close and actually sorts (alphabetically) before USHPA. It's also got the dual implication of UShhhhhGA. :shh:

If anyone wants to look into using USHGA (maybe just ask USHPA), I think that would be an interesting approach. Let us know!!!

With regard to coming up with a distinction between a hang glider and a paraglider, I think we can just use what our intuition tells us. If someone wants to invent something in between, then we can cross that bridge when we get to it.

If I were pressed to answer this (which I hope I'm not because we should start forming a Board soon), then I sort of like Bill's HGMA certification idea with the possibility of issuing special exemptions for special purpose gliders (like the Condor 330).
