I'm glad to see Steve is fighting back against this bulls***. It's too bad the current HPAC administration created this situation and is going to waste our money on legal fees and then probably have to pay out anyway. It seems to me it's all political and they are just trying to punish him for past mistakes that he's already paid the price for.

It's time for them to admit their mistakes and fix it

Doug

Sounds like know you all about the case and HPACs' reasons… why don't you act as Steve's lawyer in his defence so you can guarantee the win and have a feeling of self satisfaction sticking it to your own association you once volunteered for.

HPAC loves having members like you.

I've heard enough to come to my own conclusion that they didn't follow their own procedures and seem to have a political agenda and to know that the way they treated him isn't right. The HPAC BOD has a record of not following our written procedures and now it's going to bite them and us in the a**. Hopefully they learn from it, unfortunately it's going to be at the members expense.

Obviously I'm not a lawyer so I won't be acting in that capacity but I'm happy to show my support publicly for a member who, in my view, has been wrong by the BOD.

I'm sure the HPAC, and by that I'm sure you mean the BOD, would love to only have members that never question their authority or actions and blindly go along with whatever they tell us is best for us but as members it is our right and responsibility to question them when we think they are wrong. I have spent a lot of time volunteering in the hang gliding scene over the last 35 years including in the role of HPAC President and I think that gives me the perspective I need to know when something isn't right.

This is just another example of the atmosphere of secrecy that the BOD tries to operate in. Why is it that the members have to hear about this from the Ozreport when it is something that could affect not only our financial health but our reputation as well.

And to be clear, I'm currently not a member. I let it lapse last year and won't be renewing until I have to. It's my own small protest against what I see happening or in some cases don't see happening at HPAC recently.

I salute and support Doug Keller, for speaking out on this.
HPAC looks like another good ol' boy club gone bad.

Quinn Cornwell's response, I'm not so proud of..

This is a good topic for the main hang gliding forum (rather than the Free Speech Zone). Do you mind if I move it to Hang Gliding General?

Thanks in advance.

Sure. It's a topic that deserves discussion and details are not clear.
What similarities will we see in similar actions taken against Steven Smith, by U$HPA?
Doesn't seem to be much discussion of this elsewhere.

Steven Smith, has a post about his suspension in the basement of HG.org, and of course it's being ignored.
Davis Straub, probably has him banned.. I put a link and a copy of the original post here:

The HPAC case seems to hinge on fatal incidents of former students.
If that is the standard then there should be almost no instructors in the US.

Yes, I am interested in what other associations do when their BOD is not responding to membership requests. If they are not accountable to members on issues voted on, and do not follow historic precedent on established procedures, is there a method of impeachment. It seems as if we are not satisfied with our BOD performance we may be able to do something about it.
