Is this George Worthington Launching

Postby BigBird » Wed Mar 14, 2018 2:37 pm

Hello All,

...the Owens Valley? I'm converting a bunch of my 8mm hang gliding film to digital. I found a 50' reel marked; George W launching and Owens Valley. Since it's the only launch on the reel, I'm figuring it must be him.

Here's the launch

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's George on his Seagull 10 Meter launching from Gunter during the first XC Classic.
It's likely a competition day between July 7 and 15.

On July 2, he'd claimed a world record altitude gain of 11,700 feet from a low point during a flight from Cerro Gordo.
After the XC Classic he returned to Cerro Gordo with Don Partridge.
He and Don had both been flying ASG-21s until he got the Seagull for the 1978 season.

Thanks Rick,

I was pretty sure it was. I kind of remember it but it's been sooooo long ago. I can't think of another George W. I would have filmed launching in the Owens...
