Post subject: Big Challenges facing our club

A new developer has surfaced with plans to build houses exactly on our launch site and all the way down the main ridge, volcano, bench, and foothills. If allowed to do so, this would end flying at Kagel. Look for details soon from your board.

In the meantime, it's election time for the city councilperson in our area and we need to hope we get someone elected that will fight hard to prevent this project from happening. Both candidates are democrats, but some of our political friends are encouraging Sylmar, LakeView Terrace, Kagel Cyn, Pacoima and Sunland Tujunga residents to vote for Karo Torossian for City Council. They believe he's our best choice to ward off land developers.

The club cannot take a position on elections, but members are free to discuss and vote for whom they see fit. Make sure you go out and vote next Tuesday if you live in City Council District 7.

We haven't heard anything about the property that includes our launch since it was taken off-market... Until now. The link is for the proposal for the Sylmar Heights development. At least there will be a shorter road to launch.

At the moment, this just seems to be part of a sales pitch, although, developers have been seen checking out the site.

Windsports is meeting with the Sylmar Neighborhood Council to scope out their position and we should support any pre-emptive effort that makes development more difficult.

Wow! I'm surprised. I had assumed that the mountain was U.S. Forest Service public land, forever free from development.
