Re: WHGA project: Actions of U. S. Hawks founder

Here is what I sent to the editor of the WHGA:

I submit these two items for your list of actions of the founder of US Hawks, Bob Kuczewski.
Sincerely, Frank Colver

April 2, 2011 - Bob met Frank Colver and urged him, as a person who had attended the 1st Otto Lilienthal meet and who was also a resident of Newport Beach CA, to get involved in the effort to have a hang gliding history marker stone installed near the site of the first Otto Lilienthal HG meet of May 23, 1971. This would mark the beginning of the world wide sport of hang gliding. Frank proceeded with the project.

January 24, 2012 – Bob attended the Newport Beach City Council meeting to speak in favor of the agenda item: to approve the HG history marker stone to be placed in San Miguel Park. This was the closest public property to the site of the beginning of the world wide sport of hang gliding. The stone was placed, by the city, in time for the 41st anniversary of modern hang gliding. A Banquet was held by the Newport Beach Historical Society that evening, with a number of hang gliding’s pioneers present to address the crowd. A television show of this event was broadcast. Without Bob’s involvement in this effort it may not have been successful.
