Cowboy Up Hang Gliding - Texas

Beginning November 1st Cowboy Up Hang Gliding will open an additional full
service hang gliding school in Sealy, Texas.

Our aerotow flight park will be located at Gloster Aerodrome
(http://www.glosteraerodrome.com). Our new hanger is currently being constructed to
house our operation. It's a great place for family and friends to relax and
take in the flying activities.

We will be living on-site at the airpark at Gloster and operating 7 days a week
offering instruction, aerotows, USHPA ratings (student to advanced), clinics,
sales, service and many other flying benefits and events. Additionally we will
be offering annuals and 100 hour inspections and Rotax services for LSA.

We have been operating a successful hang gliding school in Jackson Hole, Wyoming
for the past 10 years. We are a crew of four (all fly hang gliders and
airplanes). The owners, Bart Weghorst has been flying hang gliders for 20
years, Tiki Mashy has been flying hang gliders for 33 years. We currently have
two aerotow vehicles - tugs, a Moyes Bailey Dragonfly - N412HG and a Northwing
Apache Trike - N42HG with a 17.5 Mustang Wing (topless). Both are Light Sport
Aircraft. We have three fulltime tug pilots, two fulltime tandem instructors
and two tandem gliders, along with all the peripherals that go along with giving
instruction, aerotowing, ratings, etc. We are bringing a substantial amount of
experience to the area some of which includes: USHPA Tandem Instructors, USHPA
Advanced Instructors, USHPA Tandem Administrator, USHPA Platform Administrators,
Master Ratings, Aerotow Supervisor, Examiner, Observer, FAA Private Pilots, FAA
LIght Sport Repairman - Maintenance, Rotax Level II Repairman and over 3,500
tandem flights with a perfect safety record.

We are looking forward to working with the hang gliding club in Houston, making
new pilots for the club and the sport. We know aerotowing is nothing new to the
Houston area, it happens in a "club" setting. We want to build on that, have
club members mentor students once they are done with basic hang gliding
training, so we all work together to grow pilots in the area and the sport.
Hands down, we love flying, the flying community and teaching folks to fly. We
belief that a club needs a school and a school needs a club. We feel this
deserves further brainstorming.

Kindest Regards,

Bart & Tiki

Fair weather turf runways?

Any more word on why CowboyUp is leaving Gloster? :problem:

Have they found another location? :eh:

Good morning Sam,
It is my understanding that the owners' of the airport terminated their lease as of February 1 saying that things were not a good fit. I heard a rumor that they are looking at an airport near Wharton (sw of Sealy). I have not heard if they still plan to leave for Wyoming come summer.

I sure hope CU stays into the XC season.

Sad they had to move, but upside is an easier drive from Austin and a nice XC route back home up 71.
